How Klasman-Deilmann GmbH became successful abroadEEN Lower Saxony acts as an important building block in the search for international contacts
As a network of the European Union, the EEN provides comprehensive support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), universities and research institutions. It promotes innovation and competitiveness. 4,000 experienced experts at over 600 host organisations in more than 50 countries work towards this goal. They advise businesses and research institutions on all aspects of the EU and the single market. The "Enterprise Europe Network Niedersachsen" is a member of this network and is coordinated by the NBank.
The EEN supports companies in all phases of internationalisation. It assists with the Europe-wide marketing of innovative products, technologies and services. This support does not end once the first contact has been established, but is designed to be long-term.
A very successful example of cooperation and support from the EEN is Klasmann-Deilmann GmbH from Geeste. This is the leading corporate group in the international substrate industry (including plant and potting soils) with numerous sales and production companies in Europe, Asia and America.
Klasmann-Deilmann's cultivation substrates provide the basis for the growth of vegetables, fruit, mushrooms, herbs, ornamental plants, trees and shrubs and are an essential part of the food industry's value chain. The most important components of the substrates are peat and wood fibres.
The EEN supported the company in internationalising its activities. It established contacts with Baltic partners via the Enterprise Europe Network in Latvia and Lithuania. With the support of the EEN, it was possible to acquire funding for the construction and operation of production facilities.
Thanks to extensive investments, for example in new factories in 2010 and 2015, Klasmann-Deilmann Silute is now the largest producer of cultivation substrate in the Baltic States.
However, the EEN does not just make its international contacts available to the companies from Lower Saxony. An internationalisation audit can be carried out jointly in preparation. Other services include a sustainability audit or a company audit to determine what is going well in the respective company or where there is still room for improvement in order to maintain and expand competitiveness on the market.
